Remembering those who have diedTwo-minute silence and tolling of bells
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
Our Prime Minister has called for two minutes silence tomorrow which I encourage all Waikato and Taranaki Anglicans to observe. It will follow the call to prayer that will be broadcast live at 1.30. The two minutes of silence will be at about 1.32.
You will have received a notice from me already about the tolling of bells 50 times for the 50 victims at 3.00pm. Please do not ring the bells at any other time other than that agreed to with our Prime Minister.
Many other observances and vigils are planned and you will make personal choices around those.
If there is a Mosque or Islamic Centre near you I encourage you to go and express support.
If there is an inter-faith group in your community can I encourage you to join it. The one I have been a member of for several years now is a great blessing.
If you are in communities where these options are not present then please open our churches for prayer, especially around and during the two-minute silence. If you have Muslim neighbours, invite them into our church to use for prayer. Be with them in solidarity ensuring hospitality and protection.
With every blessing
Bishop of Waikato and Taranaki
